District authorities at innovative best to ensure high polling

Coimbatore: Flashmobs, cultural programmes and bike rally were organized on Sunday to promote 100% voting in the city . The events were held by the district administration and the Coimbatore corporation.

"The events are being held to educate voters about their rights and to create awareness on the importance of franchise. Coimbatore is a proactive society and much ahead of many other cities when it comes to taking up projects and coming up with innovative initiatives. So we conducted these programmes to ensure that when it comes to voter turnout as well we are ahead," said district collector Archana Patnaik.

So far, the district administration and Coimbatore corporation have tied up with several colleges and have organized skits, speeches and programmes to create awareness on voting.

Cultural programmes such as dance and drama was organized at VOC park in the city. Also, a bike rally by college students was flagged off by the district revenue officer Christu Raj and deputy commissioner of Coimbatore corporation P Gandhimathi.

The officials have organized street plays as well in various parts of the city. Flashmob was held at Brookefields Mall in the evening on Sunday.
