The Tamil Nadu Police Museum in Coimbatore will offer free entry to the public and school and college students on September 6 as part of Police Day celebrations. Visitors can explore rare police memorabilia, historical weapons, uniforms, investigative equipment and military exhibits documenting the evolution of policing in Tamil Nadu.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Police Museum in Coimbatore will offer free entry to the public on September 6 as part of Police Day celebrations, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the history and heritage of the Tamil Nadu Police.
The initiative has been arranged on the directions of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, with members of the public, school students and college students invited to visit the museum. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening the connection between the police and the community.
The museum houses a collection of police uniforms, rank insignia, medals, badges, weapons and equipment used by the department over different periods. It also features photography equipment, audio-visual devices used in investigations and musical instruments associated with the police band.
Among the notable exhibits are weapons seized from criminal groups, including those linked to Veerappan and Malaiyur Mambattiyan. The museum’s outdoor exhibits include a T-55 tank, recoilless rifle, torpedo and Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM), besides other military equipment, launchers and explosive models.
The collection offers visitors a glimpse into the evolution of policing, covering the department’s history, achievements, equipment and investigative capabilities. For students, the museum also serves as an educational space to understand the development and functioning of the police force.
