Sathish, a 21-year-old man, has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection with a 2019 assault case in Podanur, Coimbatore, in which a 20-year-old youth was injured during an altercation. As Sathish was 16 at the time of the offence, the case was dealt with by the Juvenile Justice Board.
Coimbatore: A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison in connection with an assault case registered in Podanur in 2019, in which a 20-year-old youth sustained injuries during an altercation.
According to the Coimbatore City Police, the incident took place on February 9, 2019, following a dispute between the victim and Sathish. During the altercation, Sathish allegedly attacked the victim on the neck with a broken bottle, causing injuries.
A case was registered at the Podanur Police Station. Since Sathish was 16 years old at the time of the offence, proceedings were taken up before the Juvenile Justice Board, Coimbatore.
The case was subsequently transferred to the D5 Sundarapuram Police Station following changes in police station jurisdiction.
After completion of the proceedings, the Juvenile Justice Board found the offence proved and, on September 2, 2026, awarded Sathish a three-year sentence.
Following the order, Sathish was taken into custody and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison as a convict to serve the sentence.
