The Coimbatore Corporation has cleared accumulated garbage from a municipal site in Senguttai, Masakkalipalayam, and planted 10 varieties of saplings to improve the locality. Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, inspected the site and directed officials to undertake similar tree-planting initiatives at other Corporation-owned spaces.
Coimbatore: A garbage-dumping site in the Senguttai area of Masakkalipalayam is being transformed into a greener public space, with the Coimbatore Corporation clearing the accumulated waste and planting a variety of tree saplings at the location.
Corporation sanitation workers removed the garbage that had been dumped on the municipal property in Senguttai, which falls under Ward 53 of the East Zone. Following the cleanup, saplings of 10 tree varieties were planted at the site as part of the Corporation’s efforts to improve the environment and prevent the area from being used for waste dumping again.
The saplings include naval, tamarind, neem, pungai, poovan, vengai, athi, vaagai, arasu and banyan trees. Awareness banners have also been installed at the location, urging residents not to dump garbage there and to help maintain the newly cleaned space.
Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, inspected the site in person on September 3 and reviewed the measures taken to clear the garbage and develop the area with greenery. He appreciated the local residents, Corporation officials and sanitation workers involved in the initiative.
During the inspection, the Commissioner instructed the concerned officials to take similar steps to plant trees at other municipal sites across the city, particularly wherever spaces can be converted into greener and cleaner areas.
