Coimbatore: Two men were caught by members of the public following an alleged attempt to snatch a gold chain from a woman at Pappampatti near Sulur in Coimbatore district. A video showing locals severely assaulting one of the suspects has since gone viral on social media.
According to local residents, a woman was walking along a road in Pappampatti when the two men allegedly intercepted her and attempted to snatch her gold chain.
The woman raised an alarm, following which members of the public in the vicinity rushed to the spot. The two men allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the crowd but were chased and caught.
The public allegedly assaulted the two men before informing the Sulur police. A video that has surfaced on social media shows one of the men being severely assaulted by members of the public. He was allegedly beaten with sticks and kicked, while the footage also showed him being tied with a rope before the police arrived.
Police personnel who reached the spot took the injured men into custody for further inquiry.
