Officials from the Department of Geology and Mining in Coimbatore seized a tipper lorry carrying around three units of gravel and stones during a vehicle check on the L&T bypass road.
Coimbatore: Officials seized a tipper truck allegedly transporting around three units of gravel sand without valid permits during a vehicle check on the Salem–Cochin L&T bypass road in Coimbatore district.
The inspection was carried out near a bakery on the bypass road by Ganesan, Deputy Tahsildar attached to the Department of Geology and Mining, as part of intensified surveillance against the illegal transportation of mineral resources and sand.
During the check, officials intercepted a tipper truck and found around three units of gravel sand loaded in it. When the driver was asked to produce the required government licence, e-challan and other transport permits, the vehicle was allegedly found to be carrying the material without valid documents.
Based on a complaint lodged by Deputy Tahsildar Ganesan, Pothanur Police Inspector Ashok Kumar registered a case and seized the tipper truck along with the gravel sand.
Police have launched an investigation to identify those involved in the alleged illegal transportation of the material.
