Baladhandapani and his son Vivek from Kovaipudur were arrested in Coimbatore by RS Puram police in a case of cheating a financier of Rs 58,000 by giving them gold-plated copper jewellery and claiming it was gold jewellery.
Coimbatore: Visu (22), a resident of Kannappa Nagar in Rathinapuri, Coimbatore. He is in the finance business. The car drivers Baladandapani (65) and his son Vivek (35), both from MGR housing unit in Coimbatore, had mortgaged the jewellery to a bank on R S Puram DB Road.
They asked for money to recover it. On the day of the incident, Visu went to the bank and returned their jewellery by paying Rs 68,000.
The father-son duo then returned the jewellery to Visu and took Rs 58,000 in cash and left. Following this, Visu went to pledge the jewellery to the bank. It was then revealed that what they had given was gold-plated copper.
The father and son had scammed by buying the original jewellery and replacing it with gold-plated jewellery. Visu, who was shocked by this, lodged a complaint at the R S Puram police station.
Based on this, the police registered a case and arrested Baladandapani and his son Vivek, who were involved in the money laundering by giving fake jewellery. The two were later produced in court and sent to jail.
