CM Vijay to Reach Coimbatore at 12.45 pm; Traffic Diversions Announced Across City

Coimbatore: Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is scheduled to arrive at Coimbatore International Airport at 12.45 pm today, prompting citywide traffic diversions from 7 am to 9 pm and a temporary ban on drone flights in several areas.

The Chief Minister will land at Coimbatore International Airport from Chennai by special flight and then travel by road to Dharapuram in Tiruppur district to attend a public meeting in the Dharapuram Assembly Constituency at 3 pm. He is scheduled to leave the meeting venue at 4.15 pm, reach Coimbatore airport by road, and depart for Chennai by special flight at 6.15 pm, arriving in Chennai at 7.10 pm.

Several areas have been declared as temporary red zones as part of security arrangements for the Chief Minister's visit. In addition to the areas already notified as red zones, Kariyampalayam Junction, Neelambur, Kaniyur Toll Plaza, Karumathampatti Four Roads, Somanur, Power House, Chitra, Irugur, Ondipudur, Singanallur, Chinniyampalayam and surrounding areas have been brought under the temporary red zone.

Traffic Diversions

Buses and heavy vehicles entering Coimbatore from Salem, Erode and Tiruppur will not be permitted to enter the city via Neelambur, Chinniyampalayam and the airport route. Such vehicles will have to enter the city through Chinthamani Pudur, Ondipudur and Singanallur.

Buses and heavy vehicles travelling out of the city towards Avinashi Road will have to take a U-turn at Lakshmi Mills Junction and proceed via Puliyakulam, Ramanathapuram and Singanallur to reach the L&T Road.

Light motor vehicles coming via Avinashi Road and VK Road will be diverted through Masakalipalayam Road. Vehicles coming via Hope College will have to take a U-turn at the Tidel Park Junction and proceed via Kamarajar Road towards Singanallur.

Vehicles travelling from Kalapatti Junction towards Avinashi Road will have to take the Thottipalayam route. Heavy vehicles travelling from Goldwins towards Avinashi Road will have to take Housing Unit Road, turn at Maruthi Bakery Junction and proceed via Vairapalayam Road to reach Kalapatti Junction.

Passengers travelling to or from Coimbatore International Airport have been advised to reach the airport 30 minutes earlier than their usual travel time due to the traffic restrictions. No vehicles will be permitted to be parked inside the airport premises today, according to the authorities.

The flying of unmanned aerial vehicles, including drones, has been prohibited in red zones until 1 am tomorrow. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the drone-flying restriction, the district administration said.
