Coimbatore Car Bomb Blast Case: NIA Chargesheets 14th Accused

The NIA has chargesheeted the 14th accused, Thaha Naseer, in the 2022 Coimbatore car bomb blast case. The explosion occurred outside Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil on October 23, 2022.

Coimbatore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently chargesheeted Thaha Naseer, as the 14th accused in the 2022 ISIS-inspired car bomb case in Coimbatore. The agency filed its 3rd Supplementary Chargesheet last Friday detailing the roles of various individuals in this terror incident.

The explosive event took place in front of the heritage Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil Temple, situated at Eswaran Kovil Street in Ukkadam. The blast was initiated using a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED), which was driven by accused Jamesha Mubeen, causing his death at the scene.

The motivations behind this attack, according to officials, were to avenge the imprisonment of Mohammed Azaruddin, who was incarcerated in 2019 for promoting ISIS ideology. While in prison, Azaruddin was involved in plotting against Kafirs (non-believers of Islam), collaborating with several associates including Umar Faaruq, the designated Amir or leader of this specific terror operation. Faaruq effectively organized a group comprising individuals like Mubeen, Mohammed Thoufeek, and the chargesheeted Thaha Naseer.

NIA's detailed investigation uncovered that the group assembled in Jalakumadavu at Jothimadavu, located within the core area of the Sathyamangalam Reserve Forest in Erode District. Here, they underwent jungle training, spearheaded by Umar Faaruq, who also designated roles for executing the terror act. A week prior to the explosion, Mohammed Thoufeek and Thaha Naseer reportedly visited Mubeen's residence to finalize their sinister plans, using the explosives stored to orchestrate not just this blast but a series of intended attacks aimed at destabilizing the nation and instigating communal disharmony.

Investigations into this extensive conspiracy and the pursuit of other potential accomplices and their intentions continue diligently.
