Civic body moves in to protect reserved site

Following a Madras High Court order of March 2016, Coimbatore Corporation on Thursday attempted to recover a reserved site in Lovely Nagar in Thudiyalur (Ward 2) that was under encroachment.

The court had asked the corporation to verify the details regarding the site and if it had been earmarked park, it should ensure that there was no construction put up in the said place. It also asked the corporation to comply within 15 days of the order on March 18.

Sources said that the civic body officials went there and removed the remains of the brick work that was used to construct a homa kundam . People managing a temple near the reserved site had constructed the homa kundam about six months ago during a festival.

The petitioner, based on which the court had given the direction, N. Balasubramanian, said that the corporation should not stop with removing the small brick structure but should fence the 10,510 sq.ft. site and develop the park.
