A 12-year-old schoolboy died after a rope allegedly tightened around his neck while playing at home in Sidhapudur, Coimbatore, on Sunday. Found choking and collapsed, he was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Kattoor police have registered a case and are investigating.
Coimbatore: A 12-year-old schoolboy died after a rope allegedly tightened around his neck while he was playing at his home in the Sidhapudur area of Coimbatore on Sunday evening.
The deceased was identified as Deepak, the elder son of Shanmugam (42), a native of Idiappatti in Pudukkottai district. Shanmugam had reportedly moved to Coimbatore with his family for employment and was residing in a rented apartment on Sarojini Naidu Street, Avaarampalayam Road, Sidhapudur.
According to reports, Deepak was playing with a rope at home after returning from school when it unexpectedly became entangled around his neck and tightened. He reportedly struggled to breathe before collapsing.
On noticing the incident, his parents and neighbours rushed to his aid and took him to a nearby private hospital in an ambulance. However, doctors in the emergency department examined the boy and declared him dead.
The incident has caused grief among residents in the area. Katoor police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
