After an overnight search operation by the Fire and Rescue Services, the body of a 42-year-old man, identified as Saravanakumar, was recovered from an abandoned well near Athipalayam in Coimbatore. The deceased allegedly lost his balance and fell into the 40-foot-deep well, police said.
Coimbatore: A 42-year-old man allegedly drowned after accidentally falling into an abandoned well near Athipalayam in Coimbatore. Fire and Rescue Services personnel recovered his body following an overnight search operation.
According to the police, the deceased, Saravanakumar (42), was a daily wage labourer residing at Periyar Nagar, Govindanaickenpalayam. On September 18, at around 9.30 a.m., he had reportedly gone to urinate near a well located behind the Govindanaickenpalayam bus stop when he allegedly lost his balance and fell into it.
A person identified as Kathiravan, who reportedly witnessed the incident, informed the family. Fire and Rescue Services personnel and local residents subsequently launched a search operation.
The well was reportedly around 40 feet deep and contained water. After searching through the night without locating Saravanakumar, the rescue personnel used a motor to drain the water from the well.
His body was subsequently recovered at around 12.10 a.m. on September 20, according to the complaint.
A case has been registered based on the complaint submitted by Samynathan (63), and further investigation is under way.
