Coimbatore District Police arrested Sabari Raj, who had allegedly been absconding for five years in connection with a 2016 robbery attempt case registered at Thondamuthur police station. The accused was arrested on September 20 based on specific intelligence regarding his whereabouts.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Police arrested Sabari Raj, an accused who had allegedly been absconding for five years in connection with a robbery attempt case registered at Thondamuthur police station.
The case was registered under Crime No. 245/2016 under Sections 393 read with 397 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the police, on September 13, 2016, Balamurali was travelling by car towards Parameswaranpalayam to visit his farm to collect tender coconuts. At the time, a group of persons travelling on a two-wheeler allegedly intercepted his car by blocking its path.
The suspects allegedly attacked Balamurali on his head, injured his hands and attempted to rob him of his belongings.
Based on Balamurali’s complaint, Thondamuthur police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The investigation reportedly revealed that the accused had used weapons to intercept and attack the victim during the robbery attempt.
Sabari Raj, one of the accused in the case, had allegedly been evading arrest for the past five years.
Based on specific intelligence regarding his whereabouts, the Coimbatore District Police traced and arrested him on September 20, 2026.
