Head-On Collision Between Government Bus and Car on Sathyamangalam Road Claims One Life

A tragic head-on collision between a government bus and a car on Sathyamangalam Road in Annur claimed the life of a 28-year-old driver. Two other passengers are critically injured and admitted to a private hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.


Coimbatore: A fatal accident occurred on Sathyamangalam Road in Annur, Coimbatore district, yesterday evening when a government bus and a car collided head-on. The incident claimed the life of the car driver at the spot, while two other young passengers traveling in the car are battling for their lives in a private hospital.




Upon receiving information about the accident, Kovilpalaiyam police rushed to the scene and retrieved the body of the deceased youth. The body was sent to ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination. During police investigation, the deceased was identified as Hari Shankar (28), a resident of Annur area who was working as a driver.






The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in immediate death of the car driver. The two passengers who were traveling with him sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby private hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment. Medical authorities have stated that their condition remains critical and they are under constant monitoring.




CCTV footage of the accident has now emerged, which is being examined by the investigating team. The footage is expected to provide crucial evidence regarding the circumstances that led to the collision. Police are analyzing the video to determine the sequence of events and establish responsibility for the accident.




Kovilpalaiyam police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident. The government bus driver has been identified as Tamilarasan, hailing from Erode district. Police are currently questioning him to understand the events leading up to the collision. Authorities are examining whether overspeeding, rash driving, or any mechanical failure contributed to the tragic accident.




The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety on the busy Sathyamangalam Road, which witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day. Local residents have been demanding better road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such incidents. The stretch where the accident occurred is known for its narrow lanes and heavy movement of both private and government vehicles.




Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to establish whether any traffic violations were committed by either party.
