Southern Railway has extended the operation of the SMVT Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Weekly Special trains till the end of July 2026 to cater to increased passenger demand. The services will continue to halt at Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur.
Coimbatore: Southern Railway has announced the extension of the SMVT Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Weekly Special train services till the end of July 2026 to meet the growing passenger demand on the route.
According to an official release, Train No. 06547 SMVT Bengaluru–Thiruvananthapuram North Weekly Special will depart from SMVT Bengaluru at 7.25 p.m. on July 1, 15, 22 and 29 (Wednesdays) and reach Thiruvananthapuram North at 1.15 p.m. the following day.
In the return direction, Train No. 06548 Thiruvananthapuram North–SMVT Bengaluru Weekly Special will leave Thiruvananthapuram North at 3.15 p.m. on July 2, 16, 23 and 30 (Thursdays) and arrive at SMVT Bengaluru at 8.30 a.m. the next day.
The trains will halt at Krishnarajapuram, Bangarapet, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanassery, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara, Kayamkulam, Sasthankotta, Kollam and Varkala.
The special services will comprise AC Two-Tier, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class, General Second Class and Luggage-cum-Brake Van coaches, including accommodation for differently abled passengers.
Southern Railway said the extension has been introduced to accommodate the increasing number of passengers travelling between Karnataka and Kerala during the period.
