Vinayagar Idol Immersion Procession: Traffic Restrictions Announced for Sep 18

Coimbatore City Police have announced traffic diversions and vehicle restrictions on Sep 18 for the Vinayagar idol immersion procession. No entry for heavy vehicles within the city from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., while motorists have been advised to use designated alternative routes.

Coimbatore: With Vinayagar idols set to be taken in procession for immersion at Muthannan Kulam on Sundakkamuthur Road, Coimbatore, the city police have announced traffic diversions to regulate vehicular movement on September 18, 2026.

According to the traffic advisory, goods vehicles and lorries will not be permitted within the city from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the day of the procession. Alternative routes have been prescribed for buses and other vehicles.

Vehicles, including buses, travelling from Ukkadam towards Perur via Oppanakara Street, Vysial Street, Chetty Street and Sivalaya Theatre Road have been directed through the Ukkadam Police Station roundabout, Perur Bypass Road, Ashok Nagar Roundabout and Selvapuram Government Higher Secondary School junction, before turning left at Sivalaya junction.

Vehicles from Gandhipuram and Town Hall towards Vysial Street and Sullivan Street have been advised to turn right at the Ukkadam Police Station roundabout and take Perur Bypass Road, Ashok Nagar Roundabout and Selvapuram Government Higher Secondary School junction before proceeding via Sivalaya junction.

Vehicles travelling towards Trichy Road via Ukkadam have been directed through the Sungam bypass and Sungam junction. Those heading towards Mettupalayam (MTP) Road and Thadagam Road via Ukkadam should turn right at the Oppanakara Street–Kali Corner junction and proceed through Five Corner, BB Street and Lanka Corner Railway Station towards Gandhipuram.

Vehicles entering the city from Thadagam Road have been directed to turn left at the GCT College junction and take Bharathi Park Road via Avinashilingam College to reach MTP Road. Vehicles entering from MTP should turn left at the Sanganur Bridge junction and proceed via Kannappa Nagar Police Checkpost, Ganapathy and Gandhipuram.

Vehicles entering from Perur will have to turn right at Sivalaya junction and Selvapuram Government Higher Secondary School junction, proceeding through Ashok Nagar Roundabout and Perur Bypass Road to the Ukkadam Police Station roundabout.

Vehicles from Marudamalai should turn left at Lawley Road Roundabout and proceed via Thadagam Road, GCT College and Cowley Brown Road to MTP Road.

Vehicles travelling from the Avinashi Road old flyover towards Sukrawarpet and Gandhipark have been advised to take Goods Shed Road, Marakkadai junction, NH Road, Five Corner and Town Hall before proceeding towards Ukkadam.

Those travelling from Gandhipuram towards Marudamalai should take Sivananda Colony, ARC junction, Alagesan Road junction, Thadagam Road, GCT College and Lawley Road Roundabout before proceeding towards Marudamalai.

Parking will also be prohibited along the procession route from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Business establishments, shop owners and the public along these roads have been asked not to park vehicles there.

The police have appealed to motorists and the public to cooperate with the traffic arrangements and use the prescribed alternative routes to avoid congestion during the immersion procession.
