As part of a crime prevention drive, Coimbatore City and District Police jointly conducted ‘Operation Flush Out’ from Sep 11-14, targeting rowdies, trouble mongers, ex-offenders and others with criminal backgrounds, with checks carried out at liquor outlets.
Coimbatore: In a coordinated effort to prevent crime and strengthen public safety, the Coimbatore City and District Police jointly conducted a special drive named ‘Operation Flush Out’ from September 11 to 14, targeting history-sheeters, rowdies, trouble mongers, ex-offenders and others with criminal backgrounds.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Kannan, IPS, and Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy, IPS. Special checking teams comprising police personnel from various police stations were formed under senior officers, with simultaneous checks conducted across the city and district.
As part of the operation, special checks were conducted at FL-1, FL-2 and FL-3 liquor outlets and their associated bar premises in Coimbatore city and district from September 11 to 13, between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Police checked for the presence of rowdies, former offenders, trouble mongers, history-sheeters and others with criminal backgrounds, questioned identified persons and initiated preventive action where required.
The police also conducted special checks at the residences of rowdies and history-sheeters across Coimbatore city and district from September 12 to 14, beginning at 4 a.m. During the checks, the current activities of history-sheeters, habitual offenders and ex-offenders were examined, and legal action was taken against those found involved in criminal activities.
In Coimbatore city, 243 history-sheeters, rowdies and trouble mongers were checked. Cases were registered against 31 persons, of whom 21 were sent to judicial custody. In the district, 245 rowdies were checked, with 32 history-sheeters, rowdies and trouble mongers identified. Surety bonds were obtained from 23 history-sheeters, while cases were registered against two persons.
The drive also covered 209 liquor outlets in Coimbatore city, where 65 suspicious persons were identified and questioned. Six persons were arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody.
In Coimbatore district, 119 liquor outlets were checked, with 51 suspicious persons identified and questioned; all 51 were released on station bail.
