Water Levels Rise in Aliyar, Parambikulam, Sholayar Dams

Three major dams in Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar - are witnessing increased water inflow due to southwest monsoon. As of July 3, Aliyar dam stands at 55 feet, Parambikulam at 15.25 feet, and Sholayar at 77.04 feet water level.


Coimbatore: Water resources department officials have reported increased water inflow to the three major reservoirs in Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar dams - due to the southwest monsoon rains.





Aliyar Dam Status:


The Aliyar dam near Anamalai has a total capacity of 120 feet. Following rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level stands at 55 feet as of July 3. The current inflow to the dam is recorded at 151 cubic feet per second. Water is being released from the dam at a rate of 350 cubic feet per second.





Parambikulam Dam Status:


The Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a total capacity of 72 feet. Due to the southwest monsoon, the catchment areas continue to receive steady water inflow. As of July 3, the water level has risen to 15.25 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 467 cubic feet per second, while 400 cubic feet per second is being discharged.





Sholayar Dam Status:


The Solayar dam near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. Rainfall in the catchment areas has pushed the water level to 77.04 feet as of July 3. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 877 cubic feet per second. Water is being released at a rate of 563 cubic feet per second, according to water resources department officials.





With the southwest monsoon continuing to bring rainfall, the gradual rise in water levels across these dams brings hope to farmers in the region.
