A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by four juveniles in conflict with law and an adult in Pollachi, following a personal dispute linked to an alleged illicit relationship. The juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, while the adult was produced before the competent court and remanded.

Coimbatore: Pollachi Police (West) have held four juveniles and one adult accused in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man under the jurisdiction of Pollachi West Police Station.

According to police, the deceased, Poovarasan, had previously worked at a bakery in Pollachi, where he allegedly developed an illicit relationship with the bakery owner's wife. Following the incident, he was removed from his job. Although he later left Pollachi, police said he continued to visit the town, leading to frequent disputes and alleged threats from the bakery owner's family.

Police said that on July 8, after visiting the bakery and later consuming liquor with his relatives, Poovarasan was proceeding towards Thiruvalluvar Thidal at around 10.30 p.m. when he was intercepted by two juveniles, the sons of the bakery owner. They allegedly summoned two other juveniles and an adult friend to the spot.

The five allegedly assaulted Poovarasan, pushed him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him, causing a fatal blunt head injury. He was rushed to the Government Hospital, Pollachi, where doctors declared him brought dead. The post-mortem examination was later conducted at the ESI Hospital, Coimbatore.

During the investigation, police apprehended all four juveniles and arrested the adult accused. The juveniles were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, while the adult was produced before the competent court. All five were subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigation is under way.
