Tamil Nadu Urimai Scheme Workers Protest Over Two-Month Salary Delay in Coimbatore

Over 50 Tamil Nadu Urimai Scheme workers in Coimbatore submitted a complaint to the District Collector's office protesting non-payment of salaries for two months. The workers, including physiotherapists serving differently-abled persons, are facing severe financial hardship due to delayed payments.

Coimbatore: Employees working under the Tamil Nadu Urimai Scheme in Coimbatore district have submitted a grievance petition stating they are facing severe financial crisis as their salaries have not been paid for the past two months.

Workers employed under the Tamil Nadu Urimai Scheme in Coimbatore district gathered at the District Collector's office and submitted a petition, stating they are facing acute financial hardship due to non-payment of salaries for the past two months.

Approximately 50 workers assembled and visited the District Collector's office to submit their complaint petition, emphasizing their demands. Speaking about the issue, they stated they are continuously engaged in ensuring various welfare schemes of the government reach differently-abled persons and work as physiotherapists in this program.

The workers mentioned that while their service term extends until 2028, the non-payment of their salaries for the past two months has created difficulties in managing household expenses, including rent, children's education costs, and bank loan installments. They expressed distress over being unable to meet essential expenses.

They pointed out that delayed salary payment severely affects the livelihood of workers and also causes mental stress in their work. Therefore, they demanded immediate action to disburse the pending two months' salary and requested that the district administration and concerned department officials take measures to ensure timely payment of salaries every month in the future.

At the same time, they have also accused the officers of the concerned department here of acting with a lethargic approach.

The workers' protest highlights the growing concern over delayed payments to scheme workers across various government programs. Despite being essential frontline workers ensuring welfare schemes reach beneficiaries, these employees often face payment delays that push them into financial distress.

The Tamil Nadu Urimai Scheme workers play a crucial role in implementing disability welfare programs and providing physiotherapy services to differently-abled individuals across the district. Their work ensures that government benefits reach the intended beneficiaries effectively.

The workers have appealed to District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar to intervene in the matter and ensure prompt resolution of their salary issues. They emphasized that regular and timely payment is essential for them to continue their service effectively and maintain their dignity as government scheme workers.
