S. Rohith, M. Surya and T. Abu, students of EASA College of Engineering and Technology, secured fourth place at a national-level engineering hackathon held at JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Pichanur, Coimbatore-Palakkad Road. Their project, Aero Grain, uses eight AI agents built on Open CV technology to identify crop diseases and requirements through rover-mounted cameras, with drones deployed in areas the rover cannot reach. The students received certificates and a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, and were appreciated by Correspondant T.E. Aadarsh and Principal Z. Robert Kennedy.
Coimbatore: A national-level inter-collegiate engineering hackathon on the theme "Sustainable Development Goals" was recently held at JCT College of Engineering and Technology, Pichanur, Coimbatore-Palakkad Road.
A total of 345 students from 52 colleges, participating in 105 teams, took part in the competition. In the event, the project titled "Aero Grain", submitted by S. Rohith and M. Surya, second-year B.E. Mechanical Engineering students, and T. Abu, a second-year B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science student of EASA College of Engineering and Technology, secured fourth place. The students were awarded certificates along with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
Speaking about their project, the students said they developed it with the objective of achieving precision and safe farming through an integrated approach for better crop yield. The system is designed to provide crops with the required amount of irrigation, fertilizers and other essential inputs.
Using Open CV-based Artificial Intelligence technology, the team developed eight AI agents. These AI agents use cameras mounted on a rover to identify various problems in cultivated agricultural fields, including crop diseases. They can also identify the specific requirements of crops, such as water, fertilizers and other essential inputs.
In areas where the rover cannot reach, a drone can be deployed to address the identified requirements. All these operations are designed to be carried out automatically.
