Coimbatore: A newborn male infant, estimated to be only a few hours old, was rescued after being found partially buried near the compound wall of a privatecompany at Arisipalayam, within the limits of the Madukkarai Police Station, on Monday afternoon.

The infant was discovered at around 3.30 p.m. by a woman from Moolakadai Street, Arisipalayam, who was taking her pet dog for a walk. She noticed the baby's legs protruding from the soil, while the body and face were partially buried. She immediately alerted the owner of a nearby grocery shop, who informed Babu, a hospital assistant attached to the Arisipalayam Government Hospital.

Upon receiving the information, Babu rushed to the spot, verified the incident and informed the duty doctor at the Government Hospital, Arisipalayam. A medical team was immediately dispatched to the location, where the infant was safely rescued from the soil and shifted to the Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors found the infant to be in stable condition after providing initial medical care. The baby was later referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) by ambulance for further treatment and observation.

Madukkarai Police have registered an enquiry into the incident and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the person or persons responsible for abandoning and burying the infant.
