Two youths from Thanjavur district were arrested by the RS Puram police in Coimbatore for allegedly stocking and selling narcotic tablets and injections illegally on DB Road. Police seized tablets, syringes, mobile phones and ₹60,000 in cash.
Coimbatore: In a crackdown on the illegal sale of narcotic tablets and injections, the RS Puram police arrested two youths from Thanjavur district and remanded them in judicial custody after seizing drugs, syringes, mobile phones and ₹60,000 in cash allegedly kept for sale.
The RS Puram police received confidential information that narcotic substances were being stored and sold on DB Road in RS Puram, Coimbatore. Acting on the information, a police team led by Special Sub-Inspector Sivakumar conducted an intensive search in the area.
During the operation, police detained and searched two youths who were standing suspiciously at the location. They were identified as Sabarisan Vishwa (23),from Achanoor in Thiruvaiyaru, and Thilagar (23), from Nadupadugai in Thiruvaiyaru of Thanjavur district.
Police seized 19 Alprazolam Restil tablets, 140 Tapentadol painkiller tablets allegedly intended for misuse as narcotics, five syringes, two mobile phones and ₹60,000 in cash reportedly kept from sales. The seized items were allegedly stored illegally by the two accused.
Following the seizure, RS Puram Sub-Inspector Sukumaran registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Both accused were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
