A suspected burglar who allegedly broke into a house and attempted to break open a bureau to steal cash and jewellery was caught by residents and tied to a tree in the Koolimedu area of Nachipalayam in Coimbatore. Madukkarai police rescued the suspect and are investigating.
Coimbatore: Tension prevailed in the Nachipalayam area near Madukkarai after residents caught a suspected burglar who allegedly broke into a house with the intention of committing theft. The residents tied the suspect to a nearby tree and handed him over to the police.
The incident occurred in the Koolimedu area of Nachipalayam, where an unidentified man allegedly broke the lock of a house and entered the premises with the intention of stealing valuables. He reportedly attempted to break open a cupboard to steal cash and jewellery.
Alarmed by the sound, the family members inside the house woke up and raised an alarm. Hearing their cries, neighbours and other residents rushed to the spot.
The suspect allegedly attempted to flee from the scene, but the residents chased him, surrounded him and caught him. They subsequently tied him to a nearby tree using a rope to prevent him from escaping and informed the Madukkarai police.
On receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the suspect and took him to the police station for questioning.
Police are conducting an investigation to establish the suspect’s identity, determine where he is from and ascertain whether he has been involved in any other burglary incidents.
