Coimbatore: In a ceremony marking Dr. Radhakrishnan's birth anniversary on September 5, 2024, Ka. Vasanthakumar, a mathematics teacher from the Valparai Panchayat Union Middle School in Coimbatore district, was honored with the prestigious Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award.
The Tamil Nadu government presents various awards to teachers annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Radhakrishnan and recognize excellence in the teaching profession. The Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award is considered the highest honor bestowed by the state government on educators.
This year, five teachers from the Coimbatore district were selected by the Education Department for this esteemed award. Among them, Ka. Vasanthakumar, who has been serving as a mathematics teacher at the Panchayat Union Primary School in the Valparai Estate area for 25 years, stood out for his exceptional contributions to education.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, he went above and beyond by visiting students' homes to ensure continuity in their education. He is also known for his unique approach of teaching mathematics through songs, making the subject more accessible and engaging for his students.
