Sri Ramakrishna Hospital Becomes Tamil Nadu’s First AHA-Certified Comprehensive Chest Pain Centre

Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna Hospital has become the first hospital in Tamil Nadu to receive the American Heart Association (AHA) Comprehensive Chest Pain Centre Certification, marking a significant milestone in the State’s cardiac care ecosystem and reaffirming its commitment to world-class emergency heart care.

The certification was announced at a press conference addressed by Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust.

Awarded by the American Heart Association—one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations dedicated to improving cardiovascular and brain health—the certification is conferred on hospitals that meet stringent international standards in the rapid diagnosis, timely intervention and evidence-based treatment of patients with chest pain and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Speaking on the occasion, Sundar Ramakrishnan said the recognition reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to providing timely, evidence-based and patient-centric cardiac care.

“This certification is a testimony to the relentless efforts of our cardiology team, emergency physicians, nurses and support staff in ensuring that every patient presenting with chest pain receives prompt diagnosis and the highest standards of treatment. Our goal has always been to save lives through rapid intervention and clinical excellence,” he said.

Senior consultants from the Department of Cardiology noted that cardiovascular diseases account for nearly 36 per cent of deaths among people aged 30 to 69 years in Tamil Nadu. They added that the latest available data also points to a 12.5 per cent year-on-year increase in heart attack-related deaths, highlighting the growing need for early recognition of symptoms, rapid emergency response and specialised cardiac care.

They explained that a Comprehensive Chest Pain Centre integrates specialised cardiac expertise, advanced diagnostic facilities and standardised emergency protocols to ensure life-saving treatment within the shortest possible time. Certified centres are also required to demonstrate continuous quality improvement, multidisciplinary coordination and adherence to internationally accepted clinical standards.

The event was attended by C. V. Ramkumar, Chief Executive Officer; D. Maheshkumar, Chief Administrative Officer of SNR Sons Charitable Trust; Dr. S. Rajagopal, Medical Director; Dr. S. Alagappan, Medical Superintendent, along with senior consultants and specialists from the Department of Cardiology.
