World Heart Day: Sri Ramakrishna Hospital Launches Week-Long CPR Awareness Campaign

Coimbatore: Timely cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can play a crucial role in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrest. Raising public awareness about this life-saving technique is the focus of a week-long campaign launched by Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in Coimbatore on World Heart Day.

The hospital inaugurated its World Heart Day 2026 CPR Awareness Programme on September 29 near CSI Church at Race Course, marking the beginning of a public awareness initiative that will continue until October 4 under the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat.”

The inaugural event was attended by Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, and Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, along with the hospital’s senior management, doctors from the Departments of Cardiology and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and other hospital staff.

Organised in association with First Heart Foundations Network, the campaign aims to educate the public about sudden cardiac arrest, the importance of recognising cardiac emergencies promptly, and the role of immediate CPR in sustaining blood circulation until professional medical assistance arrives.

The week-long campaign will be conducted at several prominent public locations across Coimbatore, including Race Course, Coimbatore International Airport, Coimbatore Railway Station, Semmozhi Poonga, Broadway, Fun Mall and PRS Ground. The initiative will continue until October 4, reinforcing the message “Don’t Miss a Beat.”

Speaking at the event, Sundar Ramakrishnan emphasised the need to take life-saving awareness beyond hospital premises and into the community. He highlighted that greater awareness and basic CPR knowledge can help people respond more confidently during emergencies at home, in workplaces and in public places.

Trained students from Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences will volunteer throughout the campaign, demonstrating basic CPR techniques and guiding members of the public through hands-on awareness sessions, he said.

He added that Sri Ramakrishna Hospital continues to strengthen its cardiovascular care services through its Departments of Cardiology and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, supported by specialised emergency cardiac services, experienced clinical teams and advanced technology.

As part of the programme, students from Allied Health Sciences presented a mime and an awareness skit demonstrating the importance of recognising sudden cardiac arrest and initiating CPR without delay.

Recently, the hospital was also recognised as the first hospital in Tamil Nadu to have a Comprehensive Chest Pain Center accredited by the American Heart Association.
