Youth dies after car plunges into roadside pond near Periyanaickenpalayam

A youth died after his car plunged into a roadside pond on Kattanji Malai–Thayanur road near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore, with police suspecting loss of control during night travel.

Coimbatore:

A young man died after the car he was travelling in plunged into a roadside pond on the Kattanji Malai–Thayanur road under the Periyanaickenpalayam police limits in Coimbatore.

Police said they received information about a car submerged in a pond along the roadside and rushed to the spot. With the help of fire and rescue services personnel, efforts were taken to retrieve the vehicle from the water.

During the rescue operation, the body of a youth, estimated to be around 25 years old, was found inside the submerged car. He was declared dead at the scene.

The body was later recovered and sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are currently working to establish the identity of the deceased and inform his family.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle during night travel and accidentally veered off the road into the pond.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
