The rekla race that commenced this morning at the codissia grounds has presently been stopped as students and public demonstrate sit-in-protests at the race tracks. At around 11:15 am, the race was inaugurated by Minister SP Velumani.

Tense situations prevail at the codissia grounds as more and more supporters are thronging the place. Commissioner of Police, A. Amalraj is present at the spot, the police have been holding talks with the supporters. But, it looks like the rekla race has been cancelled.

Just after the commencement of the race, the Jallikattu supporters arrived to the spot and boycotted the races. They staged a sit-in-protest on the race tracks and condemned the government for conducting the rekla races, as yet a permanent solution for the Jallikattu issue is not arrived. The protestors also alleged that there is no need for the government for so urgently organizing this race.

The protestors surrounded the vehicle of Minister SP Velumani and raised their demands and protest, however the security guards managed to safely sent the Minister from the spot.
