Coimbatore Vizha: Art Houz brings to life the 'Mandala art form'.

Art Houz is one of the most active art galleries in the town that promotes and encourages art and craft of various forms. Kovai Vizha is an annual event that is hosted to celebrate the very spirit of Coimbatore. As a part of this on-going Kovai Vizha, that is hosted between 27th January to 5th February, 2017, Art Houz the in-house art gallery of Jenny's Club is playing host to an art exhibition of a different kind. Called Mandala, this art exhibition was inaugurated by Chitra Vidyaprakash Correspondent of GRD-CPF Higher Secondary School along with V. Senthil Kumar, CEO of 136.1 Yoga and wellness studio today. The expo has mandala painting on display done by various experienced and budding artist from the city.

Sharing information about mandala painting, a source from Art Houz educates us that mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, mandala is a Sanskrit word that means circle. Mandalas generally have one identifiable centre point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms.

Senthil Kumar CEO of 136.1 Yoga and Wellness studio shared that Mandala is basically art form from Nepal which is practiced by a particular community of people. “This is very different from all other art forms as Mandala requires a person to get fully involved in it. It needs more concentration and it's one form of meditation too. It can also be related to yoga as yoga has mandala asanas. This concept is new to the city and we wanted to launch it as a part of this Kovai Vizha.”

Kalki Subramaniam, Transgender Activist visited the exhibition with her friends from Austria and Sweden. While speaking to SimpliCity, Kalki shared that, 'Mandala is an art form which involves vedic geometry and calculation. It is generally said that everything in the universe is based on calculations. So this art form signifies the aspect of life. Mandala art form is used by all on daily basis but the name given to it is different in different culture. If we consider Tamil Nadu, we put Kolams in front of our houses, which is also a form of Mandala. The painting on display in this exhibition shows that the artist have evolved, experienced and put it on the canvas'.

The event was graced by Praveen Kumar - Coimbatore VIzha Chairperson and Prasanna Kumar Co-Chair for Young Indians (Yi) Coimbatore Chapter. Apart from the exhibitions, as a part of the on-going Kovai Vizha, the Art Houz will host a workshop on career opportunities in animation, film making and media art on 30th January by M. Venkatesan Film Maker, Producer and Director. The following day, on 31st January, Mandala Namaskaram and Tibet Singing Bowl Meditation will be hosted in collaboration with 136.1 Yoga and Wellness Studio.

The Mandala art exhibition will conclude on 5th February, entry to this exhibition is free and visiting hours are between 11.00 am to 7.00 pm.
