Several political parties have joined hands today to raise their condemnation against the Kerala Government for constructing check dams across river Bhavani.

Close to 450 members from parties including DMK, TMC, TPDK along with farmers association, trade unions, NGOs and social activists from the city marched towards the TN border at Anaikati to hold their protest at the dam construction site in Attappady.

The police stopped them at the TN border near Anaikati and asked them to clear the protests. Tense situations prevailed as the protestors tried to cross the border by-passing the police force. They also raised slogans against the Kerala government's move to build check dams across the Bhavani river, which would intrude the inflow of water to Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and districts.

As a precautionary measure, security has been increased multi-fold at the Anaikati - TN border to prevent protestors entering into Kerala. The police have sealed the borders and hence no vehicles can commute between either sides. The vehicles en route to Kerala were diverted through an alternate route.
On 17th January, these parties held a massive human chain at Gandhipuram, Coimbatore on the same issue, which was led by TPDK General Secretary, K. Ramakrishnan.
