Mettupalayam residents want Tamil Nadu government to stop construction of check dams across Bhavani River in Kerala


People from Mettupalayam has petitioned the Coimbatore collector to take action to stop the construction of the dams across the Bhavani river in Kerala and to stop the wastes from mixing in the river. Kerala government has decided to construct check dams in 6 places across Bhavani river in Kerala. Protests are held continuously by various organisations against the construction of these check dams



Save Bhavani organisation members from Mettupalayam today presented a petition to the Coimbatore district collector. When speaking to the press the Save Bhavani office bearers said “Check dams which are constructed at Kumapalayam, Samayapuram would be removed. The people who are using the Bhavani river water are affected as sewage and industrial wastes are mixed into the river at various places along the river. The government should action to stop this. The construction of check dams in Kerala will lead to complete blockage of water flow in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government should take necessary steps to stop the Kerala government from constructing the dams” they said.
