Miscreants who dialled police control room '1300' times arrested by police

Centralized police control room has been established in all the District Police Commissioners Offices. Coimbatore police commissioner's office has a similar control room. It is reported that some miscreants were contacting this police control room for the past few days, several times. Alarmed by the calls from same numbers over and over, personnel from the cyber crime police investigated and found that 1300 calls were made from the same number by two different persons.

The team investigating this case discovered that the calls were made by Srikanth from Vedapatti(41) and Selvam (40) from Othakalmandapam, Coimbatore. The police also learnt the duo also gave false information of incidents to the police control room. When inquired the reason, the duo said that they have dialing for fun and to pass time. Upon investigation, the police discovered that the accused persons have been calling the police control room and fire department and were abusing the women personnel using filthy language.

A spokesperson from the police department stated that, 'the control room received 1,300 calls from this gang'.

When speaking about the incident A Amalraj, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner said, “We have six connections at the control room in Coimbatore. We get close to 4,000 calls approximately on a daily basis. Out of which only 10-15 calls are genuine. Rest of the calls are either fake or made late from the time of the incident.”

“All calls received are being and recorded. After receiving calls, the concerned police stations of that jurisdiction will be informed immediately. With the help of advanced software technology, all calls made to the control room will be attended on priority. Hence, callers should refrain from making fake calls to the control room' Commissioner said.
