'The DMK government acquiring agricultural lands to create industrial estates, despite promises made to the contrary' says Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

Vanathi Srinivasan alleged that the DMK which stalled the Chennai-Salem eight-lane expressway project when they were in opposition are now acquiring lands to establish industrial estates.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has said that the DMK government wants to destroy agricultural lands in the name of creating industrial estates and it should apologise to the people for stalling industrial development when it was in opposition.

Vanathi Srinivasan, national president of BJP's women's wing and member of Coimbatore South assembly constituency, said in a statement. "From 2011 to 2021, the DMK vehemently opposed the 10-year AIADMK rule whenever it tried to acquire land for the implementation of development projects".

Vanathi also alleged the DMK then instigated people working under the guise of environmental activists, and stalled development projects. If the DMK comes to power, they promised that they will not acquire agricultural land for any reason and will convert even fallow lands into agricultural land.

"On the contrary, DMK government is now acquiring agricultural land for industrial estates. Those who blocked the Chennai-Salem eight-lane expressway project are now acquiring agricultural land once assuming the reins of power" Vanathi alleged.

"DMK ministers are giving lectures today that if development projects and industrial development are to be made possible, land has to be acquired.

The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order to acquire about 4,000 acres of land for setting up an industrial estate at Sirumugai in Mettupalayam taluk of Coimbatore district. Apart from this, the DMK government is also planning to set up an industrial estate on 1,084 acres near the Bhavani Sagar dam" the Coimbatore South legislator noted.

"Already, the industrial estate at Perundurai in Erode district has been polluting with groundwater table and agriculture has been destroyed to a great extent throughout the area. Due to this, the farmers and the general public in Sirumugai and Lower Bhavani areas are in a state of panic' Vanathi stated.

"Further adding Vanathi said if new industrial estate is set up, the farmers who are cultivating through lower Bhavani, Thadapalli-Arakkankottai and Kalingarayan irrigation canals will be severely affected. Therefore, the DMK government should drop the plan to destroy agricultural land and set up an industrial estate. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been saying 'Dravidian model of rule' for anything and everything.. The Dravidian model of governance seems to be acting contrary to the promise made to the people". Vanathi noted.

"The DMK should publicly apologise to the people of Tamil Nadu for disturbing the peace of Tamil Nadu and stalling industrial development" Vanathi said and noted.
