Kumar, who was supposed to distribute the money to the chit recipients before Diwali had suddenly gone into hiding with his family without keeping his word. Enraged by this, the public had lodged a complaint with the Tirupur City Police Commissioner's office and the District Collector's office.
Tirupur: Kumar, a resident of Serangadu in Tirupur for the past 15 years runs a grocery store and was also involved in the business of chits with people in the area on a monthly and weekly basis. More than 200 people have been paying chit instalments ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 2,000 in complete trust.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and were investigating. The police then traced Kumar's whereabouts in Kerala, and brought him to Tirupur.
