Collector Sameeran flags off Mobile Food Testing Laboratory (Food Safety on Wheels) in the city

Collector Sameeran flagged off the mobile food testing laboratory, which visited Coimbatore. Arrangements have been made for these mobile units to travel to all the districts of Tamil Nadu by the Food Safety Department.



Coimbatore: There have been several complaints of food quality and adulteration against restaurants in Tamil Nadu from time to time.

In order to address such allegations, the Government of Tamil Nadu on behalf of the Food Safety Department has introduced a Mobile Food testing laboratory, and four such mobile units were inaugurated recently.

Recently, TN Health Minister MA Subramanian inaugurated four food testing labs(Food Safety on Wheels). The mobile units were dispatched to four districts in the first phase namely Coimbatore, Salem, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli.

Accordingly, district collector Sameeran flagged off the mobile food testing vehicle at the Collectorate here today.



Food Safety Department officials, including Coimbatore Food Safety Officer Thamilselvan, were present on the occasion.



This mobile food testing labs will create awareness among the public. With the help of these mobile units, adulterants can be detected in 30 types of food items.

Moreover, it contains illustrative images of adulteration. The TN Food safety department has stated that arrangements will be made for these mobile food testing labs to pass through all districts of Tamil Nadu.
