Man's body exhumed after police establish identity

A 32-year-old man was found dead with multiple injuries near a bus stop at Nagammapudur in Annur on March 11 and the police were not able to trace the identity of the deceased. The Annur police had registered a case under Section 174 CrPC and the body was buried at Hindu burial ground in Athupalayam on March 16.

The postmortem report revealed that the man was murdered and the police changed the case to murder. Meanwhile a man claiming to be the father-in-law of the deceased visited the revenue officials who ordered the body to be exhumed.

The relatives of the deceased performed the last rites and buried the body following Islamic ritual at the Muslim burial ground in NP Itteri near Kurichi Pirivu in the city. Meanwhile, the rural police have formed special teams to arrest the murderers.

The deceased was identified as J Riyasudeen, 32, of Palakkarai in Trichy. He stayed with his wife Sabeena, 24, and his two-and-a-half year old daughter and was engaged in second hand car business.

Police said he had told his wife Sabeena that he would meet a person in Coimbatore for business purpose and had left home on March 10. But he never came back home. Meanwhile, a body was found with multiple injuries near Annur. A few days ago Meeran Hussain, father-in-law of the deceased, came to know about the murder. He started enquiring and this led to the police establishing the identity of the man.

On Saturday, the body was exhumed from the burial ground at Athupalayam and was taken to another burial ground at NP Itteri near Kurichi Pirivu where the last rites were performed by the relatives of the deceased. Around 5 pm, the body was buried.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Zaheer Hussain from Ukkadam was also engaged in second hand car dealing business. His elder brother, who was also in the same field, was doing business with Riyasuddin. Police said Riyasuddin had borrowed 1.5lakh from him and failed to repay the amount.

Police suspect that Zaheer Hussain, his elder brother and a few of their accomplices had murdered Riyasudeen and dumped the body near Annur. The special team got a tip-off and tried to arrest Zaheer Hussain in Ukkadam. But he managed to escape from the police. He has reportedly gone to Kerala and a special team is camping in Kerala to detain him for further investigation.
