'TN Health department is gearing up to achieve TB-free Tamil Nadu by 2025'- TN Health Minister Ma Subramanian

The government would set up 72 urban clinics in Coimbatore district, including 64 in the corporation limits, two in Pollachi, and one each in Mettupalayam, Valparai, Gudalur, Kavundampalayam and Karumathampatti municipalities.



Coimbatore: The Chief Minister has given permission for 72 urban health clinics in Coimbatore which would add up to the existing hospitals, TN Health Minister MA Subramanian said on Monday.



After participating in the white coat ceremony for the first-year students of ESI medical college hospital in Singanallur, the minister briefed the reporters.



“As far as Coimbatore is concerned, the Chief Minister has been continuously taking several steps to improve the medical infrastructure. Accordingly, the Chief Minister has sanctioned 72 urban clinics in Coimbatore along with the existing hospitals”.

“In all these 72 locations, hospitals will operate with four staff on the basis of one doctor, one pharmacist, one Assistant health inspector and one Assistant. These hospitals will function from 8 am to 5 pm” he said.

“While about 708 such clinics would set up in Tamil Nadu. Of these, a good 72 hospitals will be set up in Coimbatore district” he said.

“Out of these, 64 hospitals are in progress for Coimbatore Corporation, 2 for Pollachi, 1 for Mettupalayam, 1 for Valparai, 1 for Gudalur, 1 for Kavundampalayam and 1 for Karumathampatti Municipality”.

“The Chief Minister will inaugurate more than 500 hospitals in a single day after completing these works expeditiously across Tamil Nadu,” he said.

“Further, the construction of an Urban Primary Health Centre at Maniyakaranpalayam with the approval of the Union Government is also in progress” Ma Subramanian noted.

“Two doctors from this hospital have worked in translating the first-year academic books into Tamil on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Text Book Corporation. A function will be held in Chennai on The 5th of this month to felicitate the doctors involved in this work” the minister said.

“The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu will issue appointment orders for 85 vacancies in DME, 92 posts in DMS and 177 posts as Dark Room Assistant to fill up the vacant posts in the Health Department soon,” he said

“A total of 787 appointment orders will be issued including 500 nurses working on a contract basis”. The Minister said.

While dwelling on the sale of tobacco-based products, he said that the Chief minister is determined not to sell Gutkha items in shops in Tamil Nadu.

“We are going to file an appeal in the Supreme Court legally. Since it has been going on since 2013, we will take steps in the coming assembly session to amend the law as well, if necessary” the minister said.

“We are not only providing financial assistance to those affected by TB but also providing necessary food items through NGO. The process of diagnosis of tuberculosis is also in full swing”.

“The health department's goal is to have a TB-free Tamil Nadu by 2025. Soon there will be leprosy-free conditions in Tamil Nadu of which Erode district is the most affected in Tamil Nadu” Ma. Subramanian said.
