Sanitation workers' strike enters second day, demanding pay hike and regularization of services in CMCH

Contract sanitation workers at a Coimbatore Medical college hospital staged a sit-in protest for the second consecutive day today, demanding a pay hike and regularization of services.

Coimbatore: The contract sanitation workers of the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital are on a sit-in protest demanding implementation of the pay hike for the second consecutive day.

Around 300 contract sanitation workers working at the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital are paid Rs 412 per day.

Last year, Coimbatore District collector Sameeran announced that the wage would be revised and increased to Rs 721 per day.

But, the contract sanitation workers working in the Government hospital have not been given the new pay hike so far.

Yesterday, more than 80 sanitation workers who participated in the protest also demanded regularization of their services.

The talks which was held yesterday between the contract company and the Dean of CMCH Nirmala failed as they did not arrive at an amicable solution.

It is to be noted that more sanitation workers are participating in the strike today than yesterday.
