Tension prevailed near the RSS office in Kothithopu in Tumakuru following heated arguments between RSS activists and police over denial of permission to conduct a route march on Friday evening.
The RSS had attended a local program on Friday after which they wanted to go on a route march on the streets of Tumakuru. But as they had not sought permission for the same beforehand, the police refused to oblige.
This led to a heated argument between local leaders, including former minister S. Shivanna, former MP G.S. Basavaraj and MLA Suresh Gowda, and the police.
Hundreds of police personnel were deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident. Order was restored after the police officers convinced the leaders to conduct the route march on March 11.
