Veerappan alleged that over 1000 lands in Tholampalayam Panchayat areas and Velliangadu areas have been lost. He requested the District Collector to immediately intervene in this matter and set up a high-level committee to retrieve the lands under the UDR scheme which have occurred with the knowledge of officials.
Coimbatore: Veerappan, a social worker from the Velliangadu area in Mettupalayam submitted a petition on Monday to the Coimbatore District Collector seeking the retrieval of forged lands allocated under the UDR patta scheme only for tribals.

In this regard, it was alleged that the land of Thulasi Ammal in the Tholampalayam area provided under the UDR was forged, back in 2008. Thulasi Ammal, being mentally impaired was unaware of the situation. The issue was brought to her notice in 2021 and in this connection, Rajammal, caretaker of Thulasi along with Thulasi and Veerapan had appealed to the district administration for the retrieval of their land.
Veerappan mentioned that the land allotted to the tribal people in the areas under Coimbatore from 1979 to 1989 called UDR patta was given only to the tribals. "Those lands have been pirated by private companies under different names for the past 10 years. More than a 1000 lands in Tholampalayam Panchayat areas and Velliangadu areas have been lost.
Therefore, the District Collector should immediately intervene in this matter and set up a high-level committee to retrieve the lands under the UDR scheme. This illegal activity has occurred in the knowledge of officials which should come to the limelight," demanded Veerappan in his petition.
Further, the district administrative committee has assured to conduct an inquiry into the matter and cancel the lands given in the name of UDR to encroachers and retrive them and hand over those lands to the tribals.
