3 women kill themselves in one day

The police registered three cases of women committing suicide in Coimbatore on Sunday. In the first incident, R Rajika, 30, of Avinash Apartments in Peelamedu, died after falling from the third floor of her apartment building. Investigations revealed that her father, Ramlalingam, was a doctor at Coimbatore Kidney centre.

"She had returned from New York, USA, three months ago, after a fight with her husband. The couple were having a difficult time getting along," said police. At 9.30pm on Sunday she was on the phone with someone. Later, she was found dead. Police said it could either be an accidental fall or suicide. She was admitted at Coimbatore Kidney Centre and doctors said that she could be brain dead. Police said that after a confirmation about her status, her organs would be harvested.

In another case, a Public Works Department employee, S Gomathi, 38 committed suicide by consuming cow dung powder. Police said that she was unmarried and unhappy. "That could be a reason for her suicide," said police. "She could have consumed cow dung powder at night," said police. officers based on the investigation.

Selvi alias Kuppammal, 38, of Tondamuthur was a daily wage worker. She consumed cow dung powder as her husband was a drunkard and often quarreled with her. She was married to Ravi Kumar, 19 years ago and the couple has two children.
