Contract Sanitation Workers' Strike in Coimbatore Madukkarai Municipality Called Off

There are a total of 27 wards in Coimbatore Madukkarai Municipality. There are 85 contract sanitation workers, including around 65 women, working in these wards. In this situation, the private company that has taken the contract has given an undertaking to the employees and asked them to sign it.

The employees went on an indefinite strike the day before yesterday, refusing to sign the affidavit, which has a total of 22 conditions, citing various anti-workers features. They further stated that the conditions mentioned in the affidavit should be lifted immediately. The sanitation workers went on an indefinite strike for the second day yesterday.

Following that, a meeting was convened between the contractor and the sanitation workers association, led by municipal chairman Noorjahan. In this, the sanitation workers put forward their demands. Following this, an agreement was reached in the negotiations if the contracting firm approved changes to the affidavit. After that, everyone returned to work.
