Coimbatore: Dogs are one of the most popular pets among humans.
Dogs are a loving animal that displays far more love than humans. If such dogs are killed in their homes or beaten to death on the street, they are abandoned.
Some of the deceased dogs are buried. However, many dogs are not treated with care and are discarded on the streets as if they were garbage.
This causes dogs to decay and stench at one point. As a result of this, the health of a deceased animal is also harmed owing to a lack of proper funeral rites and burial of the deceased dogs.
Pet breeders and social activists have been advocating for a burial place and cremation services.

Based on this, a burial site has been built in Seeranaickenpalayam with the assistance of Rotary NGOs on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation through smart city.
Just as humans are treated with dignity and rights when they die, a burial site has been set up to cremate animals, especially dogs, who die with respect.

There are facilities to cremate the dying dogs by placing them on the cremation site and using gas furnaces.
The graveyard, which was built at a cost of Rs 35 lakh under the Namakku Naame project, is still in use today.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by City Corp Commissioner Prathap, District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, and others.
The crematorium, which opened for the first time in the Covai district, can cremate six dogs every day.

At the same time, officials have stated that street dogs will be cremated free of charge, but pet dogs will be cremated at a fee.
While statistics show that there are more than one lakh dogs in Coimbatore, officials have said that arrangements will be made to set up a dog shelter in the city as well as in rural areas in the coming years, if required.
