A POCSO court in Coimbatore has sentenced Kanagaraj (76), the owner of the shop, to 20 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. It also ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.
Coimbatore: A 76-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail by a POCSO court in Coimbatore for raping a 10-year-old girl.
A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by Kanagaraj (76), the owner of the shop, when she came to a grocery store in Coimbatore to buy buttermilk. When the girl went to the shop and came home for a long time, the girl told her parents what had happened when she enquired about it.
The parents then filed a complaint with the Coimbatore East all-women police station. Based on this, the police opened an investigation and arrested Kanagaraj.
The case in this regard was going on in the POCSO court in Coimbatore and the trial was completed and the verdict was given. A POCSO court in Coimbatore sentenced Kanakaraj (76) to 20 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for sexually assaulting the girl.
The court also ordered a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.
