Nivetha, a 23 year old DMK Councillor of Ward 97 of the Coimbatore Corporation was recently reinstated as a Council Member after being disqualified due to her absence in 3 consecutive meetings in accordance with the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act.
Coimbatore: Following her absence from three consecutive meetings, Nivetha (23) of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Councillor of Ward 97 of Coimbatore Corporation was charged under the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act.

Corporation Commissioner M. Prathap IAS lately informed me of the official statement of disqualification, along with the information that the disqualification will be reported at the next Corporation General Council meeting.

In this regard, the Coimbatore Corporation has issued a notification that 97th Ward Member Nivetha clarified in a letter written to the Commissioner on 23.06.2023 that her absence on 15.05.2023 was due to her ill health and thus requested in her letter that she be accepted as a member of the 97th Ward. The city corporation commissioner placed her plea for the decision of the council members.

In this situation, Councillor Nivetha's explanation was accepted by the council members and she was unanimously approved to continue serving as a councillor during the General Council meeting on Friday. Following her reinstatement as a councillor, Nivetha took part in the general council meeting.
