Coimbatore City Corporation plans to revise the course of stormwater of Valankulam at Trichy Road

In order to mitigate the flooding that affects the Trichy Road due to heavy rainfall, a new stormwater drain is expected to be laid at a distance of 2.5 km. The existing line from Valankulam to Ammankulam, which has become blocked and extinct, will be replaced by this new project which will carry excess water from Valankulam.

Coimbatore: M.Prathap I.A.S., City Corporation Commissioner, previously stated that work orders for this project have been issued, but approval from the National Highways Department is still pending.

"This project is estimated at a cost of Rs.9 Crore and will be completed in the next six months. Since written approval from the NH is still pending, an oral concurrence has been issued," he said.

According to the civic body's information, this stormwater drain will be laid at a distance of 2.5 kilometres. The existing line that connects Valankulam and Ammankulam has been blocked and is now extinct.

During heavy rain, the regions near the Trichy Road flood and overflow. To meet this concern the new project is anticipated to carry excess water from Valankulam linking Sanganoor Canal in a geographical stretch from Valankulam to Alvernia Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Ramanathapuram. According to sources, building work has begun and is scheduled to be completed within the next six months.
