Aavin milk supply cut in favour of private dairies - MLA Vanathi Srinivasan accuses

Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has alleged that the supply of Aavin milk has been reduced in favour of private dairies in various parts of Coimbatore district. Chief Minister M K Stalin has to take immediate action in this regard.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has urged Chief Minister M K Stalin to take action over the reduction in the supply of Aavin milk in favour of private dairies.

BJP national women's wing leader and Coimbatore South Legislator Vanathi Srinivasan said in a statement, “In all districts of Tamil Nadu, the middle class and poor people living in rural areas depend on rearing milch animals.

That's their livelihood. Most of the people are giving milk to Aavin. But for more than two years since the last DMK government came to power, the supply of milk to Aavin has been on the decline.

The Aavin management and the dairy department, which are supposed to increase milk production, have not made any effort to do so. The inaction of the DMK government has favoured the private dairies.

In Coimbatore district, aavin milk packets distributed daily to milk agents have been reduced by 10 per cent to 20 per cent with effect from August 23. It has been implemented throughout Coimbatore district through an oral order.

Due to this, the people of Coimbatore district were forced to buy private milk as they did not get the required milk. So far, 2 lakh litres of milk has been procured daily in Coimbatore union. At present, only 96,000 litres of milk is being procured, alleged milk agents.

Looking at all this, it is doubtful whether the Aavin management is planning in favour of the private dairies and creating a shortage of milk. This is highly condemnable.

The Aavin administration and the Dairy Development Department should take steps to increase the procurement of Aavin milk and to ensure uninterrupted availability of Aavin milk and milk products like curd, butter, ghee and paneer to the people. Chief Minister M K Stalin should intervene in the issue and take steps to protect the interests of milk producers and consumers. “
