Coimbatore: More than 200 students from CSI and Rangammal School took out a rally carrying awareness banners on the need to reduce carbon emissions and grow trees to protect the environment.
The International Zero Emission Day is observed on September 21 every year to provide a break to the world from fossil fuels and to raise awareness about the ill-effects of carbon emissions.
On this occasion, various programmes are being conducted at various places to create awareness about the ill effects of fossil fuels including carbon. As part of this, an awareness rally was held at the Coimbatore district collectorate on the theme of reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment.
The rally was flagged off by Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar.
More than 200 students from CSI and Rangammal School participated in the rally, carrying awareness banners on reducing carbon emissions and growing trees to protect the environment.
On this occasion, a rally was taken out carrying manjal bags to reiterate the Tamil Nadu government's manjappai scheme. The rally started at the district collectorate and culminated at the south tahsildar's office.
Slogans were raised at the rally on what needs to be done to control carbon emissions.
Earlier, a pledge regarding reducing carbon emissions was taken up in the presence of the district collector.
