Coimbatore-Bangalore Train Service: Calls for Reduced Travel Time and Revised Schedules

There's a strong demand to reduce the travel time of the Vande Bharat Express from Coimbatore to Bangalore from 6 hours and 40 minutes to 5 hours and 40 minutes. Passengers also request revised departure times for both Vande Bharat and UDAY Express trains.

In Coimbatore, passengers are advocating for improved train services between Coimbatore and Bangalore. The focus is on the Vande Bharat and UDAY Express trains, with demands for reduced travel times and revised departure schedules to better accommodate the needs of travelers.

Currently, the UDAY Express, with five stops including Kuppam, completes its journey from Coimbatore to Bangalore in seven hours. The Vande Bharat Express, also with five stops but via Hosur, takes six hours and forty minutes for the same route. Passengers are requesting a reduction in the Vande Bharat Express’s travel time to five hours and forty minutes.

Another demand is to revise the departure times of both trains from Coimbatore. It's proposed that the Vande Bharat Express, currently departing at 5:00 AM, should leave at 6:10 AM, and the UDAY Express, currently leaving at 5:40 AM, should depart at 6:30 AM.

Regarding seating, both trains offer around 1300 seats in AC Chair cars across three categories. The UDAY Express has 800 seats in AC Chair cars, including two levels, 478 AC Chair cars, and 52 AC Executive Chair cars. The pricing for these services varies, with the UDAY Express priced at Rs 625 for AC Chair cars, and the Vande Bharat Express around Rs 1000, including snacks and food. For Executive Chair cars, the Vande Bharat ticket is approximately Rs 1850, inclusive of meals.

Notably, the Vande Bharat Express from Coimbatore is the earliest departing train in the country at 5 AM and is one of the slowest with an average speed of 57 km/h. In contrast, the UDAY Express travels at an average of 60 km/h.

There's a call for the reworking of the timetable, which could benefit approximately 2400 passengers daily, translating to around 8 lakh passengers yearly. This change could potentially generate a minimum revenue of Rs 14 lakhs per day from the AC coaches alone, totaling to Rs 50 crores annually from the Coimbatore to Bangalore route.

Passengers and stakeholders hope that the Southern Railways will consider these demands, which would benefit the over 30 million people living in the Western Tamil Nadu region who rely on these train services.
